In the second year of a global pandemic, Conservation International pressed ahead to confront climate breakdown, the pivotal challenge of our time. We made major strides in science and policy to protect the oceans — the origin and the engine of all life on this planet. Our researchers helped to pinpoint the places in nature that most need to be conserved, as we worked with partners to funnel millions of dollars to protecting and restoring them.
Here are a few of the highlights.
2021 Achievements
Conservation International helped forge a breakthrough at international climate negotiations. Nearly 150 countries committed to end forest loss by 2030 and more than 30 financial institutions pledged to eliminate deforestation from their portfolios by 2025
With assistance from Conservation International, Costa Rica announced it would expand its protected ocean area from 2.7% to more than 30%
By 2028 CI Ventures aims to invest $25 million in 100 deals, leading to the sustainable management of 500,000 hectares (1.2 million acres) of land and sea, and supporting the livelihoods of 60,000 people
The Priceless Planet Coalition — a partnership of Conservation International, Mastercard and the World Resources Institute — is helping to restore some of Earth’s most valuable forests, with the goal of planting 100 million trees by 2025
A forest carbon project supported by Conservation International has helped Indigenous Maasai pastoralists and Kamba agriculturalists conserve and restore 404,000 hectares (1 million acres) of land in southeast Kenya

2020 Annual Report
A global pandemic slowed the pace of life. It did not, however, slow climate breakdown. With only a decade left to avoid the worst impacts of climate change, stalled action in 2020 provided a setback just when progress was needed most.
Yet Conservation International forged ahead. Read the highlights.
2019 Annual Report
We are in the midst of a crisis that is the greatest humanity has ever faced. The Amazon is burning. The Arctic is melting. And in a time when our assault on nature has given rise to deadly zoonotic diseases, one has become a catastrophic pandemic.
But the young are raising their voices full of determination, resolve and rage. Listen to them: if we do not take care of our planet, nothing else will really matter.

2017 Annual Report
Since our beginning, in 1987, Conservation International has worked with partners to protect more than 1.5 billion acres of the most critical landscapes and seascapes around the world — equivalent to two thirds of the United States. It is an impact visible from space. And it has changed the trajectory of global conservation and positively impacted the lives of millions of people in over 30 countries.
